The other night a group of friends were laughing about holiday sweaters. One of them had gone to a parent’s meeting and was mortified to find most of the women wearing the famous (or maybe "infamous" is a better word) holiday sweater. I think they have made a name for them selves equal to Fruit Cake.
The idea of a holiday sweater is nice, they are cheerful, festive, and … well … it is cold outside. But the problem with them is that they just are not flattering on most women. First of all, they do nothing for a woman’s curves besides cover them up. Second, they add bulk and weight exactly were we need it the least: our mid-section. And third, … well … they are generally decorated more appropriately for an 8 year old girl.
So here are some thoughts on dressing festively this Christmas, while looking like the hot, beautiful woman that you are.
Red is always a good and obvious place to start. Mixing red in your accesories is a nice punch. Check out this fun hat (warmth & color at the same time!) from VintageKelli. www.vintagekelli.etsy.com

Any jewel tones are festive and satin is a hot trend right now. Check out these beauties (photo taken frow www.instyle.com)
Other festive colors you can mix in are white or metallics like matte gold or silver. I have a silver hand bag I wear a lot that gives a bit of sparkle and goes with just about everything. Or, pull out your pearls and your funky chunky gemstone costume jewelry like this set from AmysTreasures www.amystreasures.etsy.com

or these earrings from me … www.loridelisle.etsy.com … are fabulously sparkly and chic!
And a holiday look can be as simple as adding a little extra glow to your face. You can brush a little shimmer powder to highlight your cheekbones and temples, touch a bit of metallic eyeliner along the inner part of your eyelid, or for some extra glam, place some body glitter on the base of your eye lid with a small wet brush or q-tip. For a bit of glamor, go for a smoky eye by lining your lid in a dark liner and then smudging it with a dark eye shadow like charcoal or aubergine. Then touch a bit of shimmery gold or silver on your inner lid and just under your brow bone. Always finish off any make up look with a clean brow, a couple coats of mascara and NEVER forget your lips.
Have a Very Merry Christmas!
